The TISD is responsible for the engineering design, development, production and field support of reliable and cost effective systems and products for tactical command, control, intelligence and information systems. Primary emphasis is placed on:

• Integration and quality production of commercial off-the-shelf (COTS) equipment into the harsh tactical environment. Emphasis is also placed on the development of specialized products designed to resolve difficult performance, reliability and maintainability problem areas, including innovative enhancements to COTS hardware, firmware, software, and to the operational concepts of those tactical systems.
• Cost effective procurement and integration of commercial off-the-shelf (COTS) information technology equipment. Emphasis is placed on the innovative packaging of COTS products "shrink-wrapped" to reduce costs to the end user, procurement time to acquire, deployment readiness, and total costs of ownership.
• Engineering services to address environmental testing and evaluation, performance to improve reliability and maintainability, including innovative enhancements to COTS software and the operational concepts of those systems.
• Engineering design, development and production of reliable and cost-effective products and services with primary emphasis placed on the integration and quality production of Commercial-Off-The-Shelf (COTS) equipment into integrated rack systems.
