3RU Dual GigE Switch Enclosure for Dell 5200 PowerConnect Series


SAIC’s Tactical Information Systems Division (TISD) has introduced a rugged and fault-tolerant 3RU Dual Gigabit Ethernet (GigE) switch enclosure to mount in a Shipboard Standard 19-inch EIA Rack with no cable adaptation or additional cabling required. The enclosure houses two Dell PowerConnect 5212 or 5224 managed GigE switches, plus media converter-mounting tray. The Dell 5200 Series PowerConnect switches redundantly downlink to ten servers with the Dell 5212 option or redundantly interface up to 22 servers with the Dell 5224 option via 10/100/1000 MB RJ-45 ports. Uplink interface options to the network core are supported by 10/100/1000 MB RJ-45 ports via Cat5E STP cable and 10/100/1000 MB fiber uplinks via internal-to-switch SFP GigE transceivers or externally mounted 10/100 media converters utilizing 62.5/50 MM fiber or 10 micron SM fiber optic cabling.

The enclosure is ruggedized for shipboard and other extreme military environments. This rugged rack-mount kit is designed to support the Navy’s GCCS-M and TBMCS LAN connectivity while maintaining ISNS VLAN requirements. This product reduces the ILS and maintenance costs of secure, fault-tolerant LAN connectivity and offers improved media conversion and baseline configuration capabilities.

  • 5224 10/100/1000Base T Downlink Ports: 24 RJ-45 ports per switch, IEEE 802.3ab (each fiber uplink port consumes one downlink port)
  • Fiber Optic Media Uplinks:
       —  Up to four GigE fiber uplink ports via Dell SFP 1000-SX/LX Mini-GBIC for internal Gigabit fiber uplinks
       —  Up to four 10/100 MB fiber uplinks via SAIC designed, externally mounted media converters
  • Media Conversion: Up to four externally powered media converters per kit
